AN AYR man has appeared in court in connection with an alleged sexual assault on a boy in West Kilbride.
Andrew Scott, 49, appeared in private alongside 58-year-old William Cunningham at Kilmarnock Sheriff Court on June 11.
Mr Cunningham, described as a resident of North Ayrshire, faces one charge of having intercourse with an older child, in contravention of the Sexual Offences (Scotland) Act 2009.
Mr Scott, of Ayr, has been charged, under the same legislation, with engaging in sexual activity with or towards an older child.
Neither man made any plea or declaration.
Both were granted bail pending a further court appearance at a later date.
Police Scotland said officers were called to a report alleging that a boy had been sexually assaulted in the Crosbie area of West Kilbride at around 9.30pm on Friday, June 7.
Police Scotland say their enquiries into the incident are ongoing.
The legislation defines an "older child" as one who is at least 13 years old but has not yet reached the age of 16.
All accused persons reported are considered innocent unless they later admit the charge(s) against them or are found guilty.
