Tens days of essential roadworks are set to hit the A77 south of Ballantrae later this month.

Resurfacing works by Amey will be undertaken using overnight closures of the A77 between 8pm and 6am each night, between Sunday, June 23 and Wednesday, July 3.

There will be no overnight works on June 29 and 30. Traffic management will be removed by 6am on Thursday, July 4.

Local access will be maintained between Shallochpark roundabout and B704 Mains Road, and between Stranraer and Glenapp.

Diversions for through trunk road traffic will operate as follows:

Southbound traffic will exit the A77 at Shallochpark Roundabout onto the A714 and follow to North Barnkirk, turn right to continue to South Barnkirk and then turn right onto the A75. Traffic will then continue westbound towards Stranraer before taking the A751 to Innermessan. Traffic will then be able to re-join the A77 northbound towards Cairnryan.

Northbound traffic will take the A77 southbound and turn left onto the A751, left onto the A75 eastbound towards Newton Stewart, and left onto the unclassified road at South Barnkirk. Traffic will then be directed to turn left onto the A714 at North Barnkirk and follow the A77 to Shallochpark Roundabout. Other local routes are available.

Ferry traffic will be able to access Cairnryan from Stranraer throughout the works.

The diversion is expected to take an additional 30 minutes. The A77 will be open during the day during these works, with traffic lights in place to facilitate the cooling of deeper sections of treatment.

Due to road widths it is not possible to safely resurface the road without a full night-time road closure in place.

Access for emergency service vehicles will be maintained throughout the works.
