TWO people are in a serious condition in hospital after a crash involving a car and a lorry between Ayr and Cumnock.

Emergency services were called to the crash, on the A70 Ochiltree to Coalhall road at the Killoch junction, at around 1.30pm on Tuesday, June 4.

The 59-year-old female driver and the 88-year-old female passenger of the car, an MG ZS, were taken to the Queen Elizabeth University Hospital in Glasgow, where their conditions are described as serious.

The 30-year-old male driver of the HGV was not injured.

The road was closed for around 10 hours to allow for crash investigations to be carried out.

It reopened around midnight.

Enquiries are ongoing to establish the full circumstances of the crash and officers are appealing for witnesses.

Road Policing Sergeant Gordon Stewart said: “I am appealing to anyone who witnessed the crash and who has not already spoken to police to get in touch.

“I would also ask anyone who was travelling on the road around the time and who may have dash cam footage which could assist to contact us.”
