A youth hub is set to become the first ever dedicated building for young people in North Carrick when it opens next week.

The KA19 Youth Hub in Maybole will officially open its doors on the evening of June 11, coinciding with the first ever United Nations Day of Play.

The hub has been named by young people from Maybole and the North Carrick area who have formed a youth board.

They will host the official opening and welcome a number of celebrities.

Kayleigh Haggo, world and European champion in frame running, who hails from Maybole, will cut the ribbon alongside young TV stars Cameron and Finlay and brother Archie Barclay, from Mid Brockloch farm near the town, who appeared in the most recent series of This Farming Life.

Guests can also expect entertainment from Edinburgh Festival veteran Matthew Kerr, aka The Juggler Gent.

Doors will open at 6pm, with the ribbon-cutting ceremony scheduled for 6:30pm.

The hub will host sessions led by youth development worker Fergus Blair and South Ayrshire Council detached youth workers.

Marguerite Hunter Blair, chair of the Carrick Centre, said: "We are delighted that this first-class facility for the young people of North Carrick is open for business.

"We are already working with a great group of funders and partners to ensure the KA19 Hub thrives.

"The formal opening of the KA19 Youth Hub on June 11 is a fitting way to mark the United Nations first world Day of Play, set up to ensure that every child thrives and reaches their potential through the power of play and recreation.”
