A newly refurbished day room for dementia patients has been opened at Crosshouse Hospital.
The opening took place during Dementia Awareness Week, with patients, their families and staff in attendance.
Senior charge nurse Alexis Patten said: "Over the last two years, we have worked hard to create a safe space for patients and their families, so they can relax in comfortable surroundings and enjoy one another’s company whilst in hospital.
"The patients can do everyday things with their loved ones, such as watch television, chat and have their dinner."
Meanwhile, on May 31, NHS Ayrshire & Arran hosted a learning and caring event aimed at creating awareness of dementia and delirium.
Staff representatives from various health and social care settings were in attendance.
Mary-Anne Sheeran, dementia trainer for NHS Ayrshire & Arran, said: "The event provided staff an opportunity to meet other colleagues from different health and care sectors who are passionate about dementia and delirium awareness.
“On the day, the staff from healthcare, community and care homes were able to share their experiences and good stories with one another, with the joint objective of being able to make a difference for people living with dementia and their families.”
