A public consultation is set to take place on the proposed masterplan for Hourstons and the Arran Mall in Ayr.

South Ayrshire Council is proposing to turn the disused buildings into a mixed use care village.

Staff from the South Ayrshire health and social care partnership (HSCP) would move into the former Hourstons building under the proposals.

The Arran Mall would be demolished, with a view to transforming the area into a 'Living Well Village' which could feature residential care, care experienced accommodation, a day centre, and affordable housing.

Although the original Hourstons frontage would be retained, some demolition could take place at the back of the building to help make way for the care facilities.

The plans could involve the relocation of the HSCP's services from premises currently owned by the council.

A public consultation will take place online and in person over the coming months.

The online consultation will run from June 11 to 25, and then from July 9 to 23.

An in-person event will take place in the Grain Exchange on July 17.

The consolation is part of the pre-application process, ahead of a planning application for the proposed works.
