Five weeks of roadworks are now under way on the A77 between Kilmarnock and Ayr.

Amey is undertaking essential bridge parapet and safety barrier replacements on the southbound A77 Kilmarnock bypass at Spittalhill from Sunday, June 2 until Thursday, July 11.

The work will be carried out using a continuous 24-hour single lane closure of the near side lane in the southbound carriageway.

In addition, there will a one-night total closure at the end of the works to remove the temporary safety barrier.

The closure will be in place between Bellfield interchange and Spittalhill from 8pm to 6am on Thursday, July 11.

Traffic during this closure will be diverted through the Bellfield Interchange via Queens Drive, Hurlford Road and Ayr Road to re-join the A77 south of the structure.

There will also be three total overnight closures of the A77 southbound on-slip on Sunday, June 9, Monday, June 10 and Tuesday, June 11 between 8pm and 6am each night.

This is to facilitate the hydro-demolition of the parapet plinth.

Traffic wishing to join the A77 southbound will follow the diversion in reverse, joining the A77 at Bellfield Interchange.

Access for emergency service vehicles will be maintained throughout the works.
