Vandals started a fire at Prestwick Golf Course in late May 2004, almost sparking a disaster. The gorse bush blaze nearly reached a nearby fuel depot at the terminal. Flights to and from Prestwick were also delayed as thick smoke billowed up into the flight path.
Pupils taking part in a P7 Enterprise Project at St Ninian’s Primary handed over a cheque for £150 to Children 1st after raising the cash through a variety of fundraising exploits designed to hone their business skills.
The 400th anniversary of hospital care in Ayr was officially marked by a special civic reception in 2004. And the gathering had a VIP guest, 10-year-old Crosshill Primary pupil Kimberley Gallacher, who won a South Ayrshire wide art competition to mark the special anniversary.
Parents and friends had the chance to see Marr College from the pupil’s point of view when they came along to the Troon school for a special Open Day in 2004. Pictured are Kenzie Sharkie, Keith Burton and Sarah Riley of the woodwind trio.
Rain failed to stop the fun of the Symington Gala Day in June 2004. Gemma Davidson and Sam Nimmo were crowned Queen and King of the Gala.
Golfing superstar Colin Montgomerie paid a flying visit to coach youngsters at Turnberry in June 2004. He tutored children from Girvan Academy and revealed to them the motivations behind his illustrious golfing career.
