The sun was shining and the music blaring at a family-friendly music festival in Troon in memory of a much-loved Scout leader.

Nigefest 2024 took place at The Tattie Shack on Monktonhill Farm in Troon on Saturday, raising vital funds for an Ayr retreat which provides free therapeutic short breaks for children, young people and their families with cancer and life altering illnesses.

The festival was set up in 2021 in memory of Prestwick Scout leader Nigel Cochrane, who sadly passed away during the pandemic.

The annual festival includes live bands, acoustic sets, comedy, fairground rides, face painting, food vans, assault course, a licensed bar and much more.

Nigel’s brother-in-law Alastair Shields organises the festival, and says he hopes to make the event bigger and better every year.

He said: "It went very well, it was a nice day despite some fog in the morning that eventually went away. We had 600 plus tickets sold, so it was really busy.

"Everyone seemed to enjoy themselves, we had a little something for everyone, and the acts all had a great time.

"We always try and go bigger or better, so after a wee break we'll look ahead to next year."

Bands on stage this year included Earthbound, Memphis, The Splinters and Wildcard, with a wide range of acoustic sets, a DJ and even some comedy.

Nigel suffered from diabetes for much of his life and all proceeds from the festival go straight to Whiteleys Retreat in Ayr. Over £2,500 was raised for the charity during last year's festival.
