BIG crowds flocked to Ayr Racecourse on Saturday…but not (just) to watch horses in action.
Glorious sunshine smiled down on the Ayr County Show as agricultural exhibitors from all over Ayrshire and beyond were joined by members of the public for the biggest event in the rural community’s calendar in the area.
The 179th show, organised by the Ayrshire Agricultural Association, boasted more than 400 sheep entries as well as around 90 beef cattle and 70 dairy cattle, alongside some 16 Clydesdale horses and a large selection of horses and ponies.
As well as the show rings, the event also featured trade stands, crafts, vintage tractor display, SWI competitions, Young Farmers competitions, family entertainment, music, a children’s marquee and the ‘TT Ayr’ show (TT standing for Trucks and Tractors) – while stuntman Dangerous Steve provided plenty of entertainment with his hair-raising demonstrations.
The event was also attended by Cammy Wilson from The Sheep Game, Dinosaur Invasion, Owl Magic, Aldabra Giant Tortoises and many more.
And the standard of the show earned plenty of high praise from members of the public, with comments posted on social media afterwards describing it as "absolutely brilliant", "fantastic" and "superbly organised and very smoothly run".
