Two Ayrshire College students will attend the Scottish bricklaying ‘SkillBuild’ competition in Edinburgh this June.
Billie Murray and Chantelle Muir have already made a mark as the first female apprentice bricklayers in Scotland for Persimmon Homes.
The pair joined the company in August 2022 and have since excelled in the classroom and on site.
Their efforts secured them a nomination to participate in this year’s SkillBuild competition.
Billie is from Cumnock and Chantelle from Ayr.
In March 2023 they won the college's John Mather Award, which provides each winner with a set of new tools so they can forge a career path without having to worry about the cost of buying new equipment.
Chantelle said: "I’m excited to be representing Persimmon Homes and Ayrshire College at this year’s SkillBuild.
"It’s fantastic to be nominated to take part and I hope my training and time on the tools will stand me in good stead for the competition."
William Smith, apprenticeship manager at Persimmon, said: "Billie and Chantelle are a credit to both Persimmon and Ayrshire College and I’m delighted they have been put forward for the Scottish SkillBuild competition.
"SkillBuild is the perfect stage to showcase the skills they have honed during their apprenticeship and I wish them both the best of luck.”
The regional SkillBuild competition in Scotland will be held at Edinburgh College on June 25.
