Prestwick Airport welcomed two very special guests from NASA earlier this week.
The airport welcomed NASA chief astronaut, Joe Acaba, who flew on shuttle STS119, ISS Expedition 31/32 and ISS Expedition 53/54.
Also visiting was Dana Weigel, deputy program manager at the International Space Station (ISS).
The pair presented airport staff with a framed picture commemorating its pivotal role in the NASA direct return programme for International Space Station (ISS) astronauts.
Prestwick Airport serves as the second land stop for many astronauts on their journey back home from space.
After spending months, sometimes even a year, aboard the ISS, the astronauts make their first proper stop at the airport's FBO facility.
The stunning picture captures a breath-taking view of Scotland from the International Space Station, along with an ISS25 patch, issued to celebrate to celebrate the 25th anniversary of International Space Station on December 6, 2023.
The picture also included every astronaut who returned via Prestwick Airport between 2013 and 2019, symbolizing the airport's longstanding support to NASA and space exploration.
A Prestwick Airport spokesperson said: "As we eagerly anticipate the return of astronaut Loral O’Hara from ISS Expedition 70, scheduled for this weekend aboard the Soyuz spacecraft, we are reminded of the vital role Prestwick plays in supporting NASA's mission and the advancement of space exploration.
"We are immensely proud of our partnership with NASA and remain committed to supporting the astronauts as they foster innovation and discovery in the realm of space exploration."
