Pupils from Doonfoot Primary celebrated World Book Day in 2009 by dressing up as their favourite characters. Some superb imagination went into the day’s visiting celebrities, who included Snow White, Action Man and Rambo among their ranks of colourful creations
A teenager was shortlisted for a top award for his work in helping South Ayrshire youngsters be heard through politics.
Ayr Academy pupil Brian Borland, a member of the Scottish Youth Parliament, was nominated in the Young Scot 2009 awards. He is pictured with South Ayrshire councillors Nan McFarlane, Brian Connolly and Bill Grant.
Primary 5 and 6 pupils at the Annbank and St Ann’s campus got a visit from Scottish author Matthew Fitt at the end of March 2009.
The new £8million Barassie Primary and Nursery School officially opened its doors to staff and pupils in March 2009.

At the invitation of the Ayrshire Association of Businesswomen, Marr College senior Business Studies students attended a networking Dinner in the Gailes Hotel and Conference Centre in 2009. The Women Into Business – the Next Generation event was a big success.
As part of their annual 2009 Health Focus, Caroline McKenzie and Hugh Ward from Somerfields provided Cairn Primary with a huge range of fruit and vegetables to taste.
Synchronised figure skaters from Ayr took the bronze medal after a hard fought competition against teams from all over Britain.
The Ayr Figure Skating Club’s ‘elementary’ Synchro skating team - Gael Force - put in a fantastic effort at the British National Open in Sheffield in March 2009.
