The weather on Christmas Day was pretty awful. The rain seemed to go on and on and on.
Then, on Boxing Day, we woke to sunshine. No wonder there were lots of people out on Northumbrian beaches.
Some of them just wanted a day out. Others were checking for seal pups.
Zoe was out early, and it wasn't long before she spotted a white coat pup at Beadnell.
Young grey seal pups are born with white coats. They stay with their mum, constantly feeding on her high-protein milk and gain a huge amount of weight.
Grey seal pups are born between 12kg and 15kg. After three weeks or so, mum leaves. The pup must then fend for itself. Those that are approaching 35kg should do well, but a skinny little thing like Groot would struggle.
Groot went to a vet for assessment. No injuries but he was dehydrated and needed fluids.
By the next day, he was looking much better. But where was he to go? This winter has seen a lot of orphaned grey seal pups, and many seal centres are full.
When we got the call to ask if we could take another seal pup, we all looked sad. Then Claudia said if she doubled two up we could manage. Problem solved.
The next day, Groot was delivered to Hessilhead. He looked quite cosy in a dog crate in the back of someone's car, snugly tucked up in blankets after having had more fluids.
Well done British Divers Marine Life Rescue.
