LIMITED train services will be operating throughout Ayrshire this month.
It comes as ScotRail confirmed that National Rail will be completing engineering work on part of the Ayrshire line at various points in January.
The work will be taking place between Irvine and Glengarnock, which means trains will not be running between these stations on various occasions throughout the month.
The closure of these lines will begin this weekend - Saturday, January 6 and Sunday, January 7 - and trains will only run as normal on two parts of the typical route between Ayrshire (excluding East Ayrshire) and Glasgow during this time.
Services will only be operating as timetabled between Irvine and Ayr, as well as between Glengarnock and Glasgow.
Replacement buses will run to and from all other stops on the routes until Johnstone, where trains will continue to operate.
The buses will run from Irvine, Largs and Ardrossan Harbour at various times during this period.
ScotRail said some replacement buses will run to connect with ferry sailings between Glasgow Central and Ardrossan Harbour/Largs/Ayr.
This same route closure will also be in place for a further two weekends, but only for a single day.
The same system of rail travel and replacement buses will also be in place on Sunday, January 14 and Sunday, January 21.
One further Ayrshire route is also set to be affected by engineering works in the final weekend of the month.
On Sunday, January 28, the line will close between Ayr and Girvan.
This means no trains will run on the routes between Kilwinning and Ayr, and between Ayr and Girvan.
Services from Glasgow Central will still run up until Kilwinning, but further stops will be serviced by a replacement bus to Ayr.
Replacement buses will also run between Ayr and Girvan, with trains running as normal between Girvan and Stranraer.
ScotRail is advising that those commuting during this time check before they travel at www.nationalrail.co.uk/.
