A KEY road in and out of Ayr town centre is set to reopen later this week following the fire at the Station Hotel building.
A fire swept through the historic B-listed building in September of this year, causing roads to close and rail travel to be suspended.
South Ayrshire Council says it expects to hand over Station Bridge Road for inspection today (Tuesday) - and that at least part of the road is scheduled to reopen on Wednesday, December 20.
In the latest update on the progress of the work, a council spokesperson said: "The contractor is continuing to carry out works at the southern gable end of the building.

"These works have progressed to such an extent that the road area will be safely handed over to the Ayrshire Roads Alliance for inspection later today.
"We expect that at least one lane in to Ayr town from the Market Inn side on Station Bridge Road will reopen on Wednesday morning.
"We intend to open all four lanes as soon as possible and we will keep you updated as more information becomes available."
