A weather alert has been issued for parts of East and South Ayrshire on Thursday.
The Met Office yellow warning for rain covers the parts of both authorities, and runs from midnight on Thursday morning to 6pm the same day.
The forecaster says that heavy rain is likely to bring some travel disruption on Thursday and possible flooding.
A spokesperson said: "Heavy rain is expected to arrive late on Wednesday and then persist for for a good deal of Thursday.
"Whilst some snow is expected to fall overnight across higher ground, this should soon turn to rain which will then steadily thaw lying snow. 30-50mm of rain is likely to fall widely with potential peaks over hills of 70-90mm.
"Rain will be accompanied by strong southeasterly winds."
Thursday's weather warning also covers Dumfries and Galloway and Northern Ireland, while a separate warning - also for rain - is in place in Tayside, Angus and Aberdeenshire between 6am and midnight on the same day.
