Ayrshire is well-known for its wide range of quality accommodation, from hotels to B&Bs and everything in between. 

But just what is the best five-star accommodation that the region has to offer to visitors and locals alike?

We took a look at the top five on review site TripAdvisor, to find out just which hotels and B&Bs are the highest rated in Ayrshire...

 

MARINE TROON

This hotel on Crosbie Road is a five-star luxury establishment overlooking the famous 18th hole at the Royal Troon Golf Club.

It has a total of 89 bedrooms with views over the Firth of Clyde and nearby attractions including Dundonald Castle and Burns Cottage.

The hotel itself includes a gym, swimming pool, sauna and restaurant, with something for every guest to enjoy. 

One reviewer said: "Fabulous! Location, ambience, quality furnishings, highest level of customer care from all the staff. Interior design is a work of art with the beds super comfort. Rare find in a hotel nowadays to find a hotel that cares about your stay. Highly recommend."

GLENAPP CASTLE

Glenapp Castle in Ballantrae is the second best five-star establishment in Ayrshire according to reviewers.

The Baronial castle sits amidst 36 acres of gardens and woodland with views of the Ayrshire coast, Ailsa Craig, Arran and Mull of Kintyre. 

The castle is the country's highest rated Country House Hotel with five AA Red Stars and four AA Rosettes, alongside plenty other awards including a Michelin Star.

One reviewer said: "We loved every minute of our two day/two night stay at the castle. Staff went above and beyond to ensure we had a comfortable stay. The food was fantastic and we loved exploring the beautiful property."

TRUMP TURNBERRY

The iconic Trump Turnberry on the South Ayrshire coast is ranked third on this list from reviewers. 

Sited right next to its famous golf course, the hotel includes a spa, six restaurants and bars, and a number of outdoor activities. 

The resort also includes stunning views of the Isle of Arran, Ailsa Craig and the Irish Sea, perfect for a relaxing getaway.

One reviewer said: "The hotel is always immaculate, the food is outstanding and the staff are extremely pleasant. It’s such a great outstanding place. Definitely one for the bucket list."

AYRS AND GRACES

This stay in Alloway is Ayr's only five star Bed and Breakfast, and is operated by hosts Rhona and Paul. 

The B&B has over 230 'excellent' ratings on TripAdvisor, and is highly praised for its surroundings, breakfast and affordability. 

One reviewer said: "Highly recommended. Situated in beautiful surroundings. Owners very helpful and friendly. Lovely clean rooms with en-suite shower/toilet. Choice of breakfast really good. Would definitely stay again."

DUMFRIES HOUSE LODGE

This lodge sits in the Dumfries House estate and and was officially opened by then prince Charles in 2012. 

The guest house, built in 1750, offers luxury accommodation including a restaurant, fireplace and flat screen TV. 

The lodge has over 350 'excellent' ratings on TripAdvisor, and ranks highly for its location, cleanliness, service and value.

One reviewer said: "Beautiful comfortable lodge rooms with fabulous soft furnishings, well appointed bathrooms, nice toiletries and super clean. Lodge staff are very friendly and attentive, extremely welcoming. Meal was delicious."
