Ayr Ice Rink is set to close to the public for what could be the final time this weekend.

Ayrshire Curlers Ltd, which owns the Limekilns Road facility, plans to close the doors for the last time this Saturday, September 23 at 6pm.

A group of investors, working in partnership with three clubs who use the facility, has submitted an offer to take over the venue - but has yet to be told whether the bid has been successful.

Last month the owners agreed to enter into talks with Glasgow Ice Centre about the possibility of their acquiring the rink.

That offer is believed to still be under consideration, but as things stand, it will close for the last time this weekend.

The future of the rink remains uncertain, and it's still unclear whether the public will ever be allowed back in to use the rink.

As a result of the closure, Ayr Bruins Junior Ice Hockey Club have invited all Bruins members, past and present, to join the club at the rink for one last skate.

A Facebook post said: "With the planned closure of Ayr Ice Rink going ahead this Saturday, 23rd September at 6pm, we are inviting all Ayr Bruins members, past and present, to join us at the rink for one last skate.

"On the ice, Saturday 23rd, 3.30pm-5pm.

"We hope to see you all there!"

An offer by investors, headed by Glasgow Ice Centre and in partnership with Scottish Curling, Kyle Figure Skating Club, Ayr Figure Skating Club and Ayr Bruins Junior Ice Hockey Club, submitted a "substantially revised offer" to take control at venue in Limekiln Road.

The offer would see the rink kept open and in public hands.

Ayrshire Curlers Ltd, have yet to accept or respond to the offer.

They announced in June that the rink would close on September 30 - a date which was subsequently brought forward by a week - citing huge increases in electricity bills for the venue, brought on by the Russian invasion of Ukraine.
