A nine-year-old Prestwick cub scout has won a national award.

Cub Scout Dayn Montgomery, from the 14th Ayrshire Scout Group, Prestwick, won the ‘Scotland’s Champions’ award in a glittering awards ceremony in the Double Tree by Hilton in Glasgow on September 16.

Dayn was nominated as ‘Scotland’s Little Champion’ for his bravery and determination for collecting Easter Eggs, Christmas Selection boxes, games, and toiletries for children in hospital over the Easter and Christmas periods with help from the Beavers, Cubs and Scouts of the 14th Ayrshire Scout Group.

Young people who benefited from Dayn’s kindness were the patients at the Royal Hospital for Children, Glasgow, where Dayn regularly attends for check-ups and recently underwent open heart surgery there.

Over the years, Dayn has received hundreds of seasonal goodies for children in the hospital and with his family.

Dad Lawrence, Mum Karen, and big sister Lucy all assisted Dayn with the delivery and allocation to each location.

Fiona said: "To see Dayn so confident in himself, going up on stage to collect his award in a room with over 400 people cheering his name was priceless.

"The tears were flowing, I thought I was going to burst with pride. Dayn Montgomery you are a true star in my eyes and encompass everything a Scout should be. Never change."

On the night Dayn met other nominees, filled his autograph book with signatures and photographs from celebrities and finalists, and won a trip to Lapland with his family in December and danced into the night.
