An environment where men can receive support and guidance is set to open in Ayr.

The Ayr and Prestwick's Men Shed, soon to open on the town's Taylor Street, will offer men in the South Ayrshire area a chance to chat over a cup of tea and provide various opportunities to work together on all sorts of projects.

The purpose of the Men's Shed is to provide recreational facilities and advance the social needs, health and well being of men of all ages and backgrounds.

The local branch is part of the Scottish Men's Shed Association, which was launched in November 2015 with the aim of helping new and existing Men's Shed groups across the country.

A spokesperson said: "The purpose of the Ayr and Prestwick Mens Shed is to provide a facility where Men can go and feel involved and get support so they get more out of life.

"A welcoming safe place to chat over a cup of tea, a place to provide opportunities to work together on projects and build camaraderie and feel involved.

"As a registered charity our purpose is to promote men's health and wellbeing and encourage members to get involved in all our activities.

"Our members feel invigorated, more motivated, more active, healthier and indeed happier.

"That’s what the Mens Shed is all about."
