A MAN has appeared in court in connection with an incident in Girvan in which another man was found badly hurt.

A 39-year-old man was taken to hospital after police were called to the Old Street area of the town on Tuesday, August 22.

Xong He, 27, from Glasgow, appeared in private at Ayr Sheriff Court earlier this week to face a single charge of assault to severe injury, permanent disfigurement and danger of life in connection with the incident.

The accused made no plea or declaration during the brief court hearing on Wednesday.

A Police Scotland spokesperson said: “Around 1pm on Tuesday, 22 August 2023, we were called to a report of a 39-year-old man found injured in the Old Street area of Girvan.

“Emergency services attended and he was taken to hospital with serious, but not life-threatening, injuries.

“A 27-year-old man has been arrested and charged in connection with the incident and is expected to appear at Ayr Sheriff Court on Wednesday, 23 August, 2023.”

The Crown Office and Procurator Fiscal Service confirmed that the accused was remanded in custody; he is due to appear in court again within the next eight days.
