A RAPIST who boasted about attacking a woman at a house in Ayr has been jailed for four years.

Donald McLeod preyed on his victim in October 2015 - then bragged about what had happened to work colleagues.

The 37-year-old was sentenced at the High Court in Glasgow on Tuesday.

He had earlier been convicted of raping the woman to her injury after a trial in Paisley.

Lord Mulholland told McLeod: "When she said 'no', you should stop. You did not.

"You bragged about it to work colleagues - that, and the victim's evidence, was your undoing."

The hearing was told McLeod, also of Ayr, had "apologised" to the woman after the attack.

But this was for any injury he may have caused, rather than admitting to the rape.

Billy Lavelle, defending, said McLeod had latterly been employed as a machine operator for a firm based at Prestwick Airport.

The solicitor advocate added: "This is out of character. He is a hard working individual.

"He does have some insight into the offence, but maintains the position [of denial] as he did at trial."

McLeod was also put on the sex offenders list.
