Ayr MSP Siobhian Brown has praised the work of Ayr and Prestwick street pastors and called them “angels” after joining them on a weekend patrol.
Ms Brown stepped out with the volunteers as they patrolled Ayr and Prestwick on a Saturday night. The team of pastors talk to pub and clubgoers and are there to offer a helping hand to those who need it.
Since the group was founded in 2015, they have become a staple of Ayr and Prestwick’s nightlife by offering flip-flops to people with sore feet, handing out water bottles, and making sure everyone gets home safely.
SNP MSP Ms Brown said: “I want to thank Richard, Nancy, and Susan from Ayr and Prestwick Street Pastors for letting me join them on one of their Saturday night shifts.
"We set off at 10.30 pm and went around Ayr and Prestwick until the early hours of the morning.
“The team chatted with everyone they met and were well received by all. Volunteers hit the streets every weekend and do some truly commendable work for our community. They truly are street angels.”
Chair of Ayr and Prestwick Street Pastors, Richard Wiggins, said: "It was great that Siobhian Brown MSP took time out of her busy schedule to see how street pastors care for, listen to and help people who are out enjoying themselves on a Saturday night in Ayr and Prestwick."
