AYR United's star man appears to be close to the Somerset Park exit door.
It comes as reports suggest that English National League side York City have had a bid accepted for the striker.
And though the exit of last season's Scottish Championship player of the year may concern some Ayr fans, it seems they could be in line to receive a substantial fee for the hitman.
York City owner Matt Uggla hinted at today being a good day "to break a record" on social media.
The English club's current transfer record stands at £140,000 - which the club paid to Burnley for Adrian Randall back in 1995.
The move would be a return to familiar territory for Akinyemi, who is no stranger to life in England, having played for the likes of Stevenage, Dulwich Hamlet and Welling United before making the switch to Ayrshire in 2022.
It was also understood that Scottish Premiership side Motherwell were interested in United's top scorer from last season - though it seems York have tabled the most preferable offer.
Akinyemi would become York's 12th signing of the Summer, with the striker rumoured to be in England right now ahead of the move.
York City narrowly avoided relegation from the English National League last campagin, finishing only three points above the drop zone.
Though they are considered to be a "club on the up" who are expected to achieve much greater things this season.
