AN AYRSHIRE golfer has wowed golf superstar Rory McIlroy at the Genisis Scottish Open.
It comes as the PGA Tour posted a video of Turnberry Golf Club's Ruben Lindsay challenging the Northen Irishman to a long drive competition at the event at The Renaissance Club this week.
Ruben, who has been in the USA playing golf out of the University of Houston recently, challenged the world number three after he finished play in Wednesday's Pro-Am at the final event before The British Open.
The teenager was coming towards the end of his practice session on the range and decided to take the opportunity to challenge him to the contest.
And McIlroy was left in awe as Ruben teed up first and smoked a drive down the practice range.
In the PGA Tour's video McIlroy could cleary be seen saying "f*** off" - which the video captioned "wow" - after checking the shot tracer to see that the 19-year-old Ayrshire man had hit his drive 374 yards with a ball speed of 195mph.
Before attempting to better Ruben's effort, McIlroy said: "Wow. If I get within 30 (yards) of this I'll be happy."
The 2014 Open Championship winner then stepped up and "absolutely smoked" it but only managed a 352 yard drive and 188mph ball speed.
As he stepped away from his shot, McIlroy was visibly in awe of Ruben's capabilities off the tee.
Ruben then spoke to the PGA Tour about challenging McIlroy and winning - which he said he was always confident he would.
He commented: "(I) was just practising after playing the pro-am, saw Rory was there.
"He was just coming towards the end of his session, and, you know, he looked like he was about to leave and I looked at Sam (his friend) and I just though okay, you know, this is kind of the last opportunity I'm going to get, this year anyway, to ask Rory for a long drive.
"I always thought I could get Rory in a long drive and people would say I'm crazy.
"So Sam was like 'okay I'll give you 20 quid', so I was like 'okay I'll take it'.
"I just walked up to him, introduced myself and said, you know, 'heard you're pretty lond, do you mind having a long drive?'.
"He agreed, in typical Rory fashion, and yeah, it was a pretty cool moment."
