Ayrshire's Beavers and Cubs were invited to an evening event at Waterstones Book Shop in Ayr.
The youngsters from the 14th Ayrshire Scout Group got an exclusive tour of the shop, which included backstage, before a scavenger hunt and exploration event took place.
Author Simon Lamb also spoke with the young adventurers before giving them a reading of his poems.
Fiona Hainey, Group Scout Leader for the 14th Ayrshire Scout Group, said: "Wow, I just don’t have any words for this trip.
"Kirsty and Kate from Waterstones in Ayr were amazing with the Beavers and Cubs and really encouraged them to hunt the bookshop looking for clues.
"This was such a unique visit for our young people and perfect timing with the end of World Book Week.
"A massive thank you to Simon Lamb for taking the time out of his busy schedule to meet with the Cubs and Scouts and to give them a private reading was the icing on the cake.
"You could have heard a pin drop as they were so engrossed with the poetry.
"Simon was also very kind to send a private recording and signed book to one of our Cubs Dayn, that was in the hospital recovering from open heart surgery, which really cheered him and his family up.
"People like Simon are the best and we are proud to call him a Scout!"
Simon Lamb, Author of "A Passing on of Shells" said: "As a member of the Scouts myself, I loved seeing the young people living my fantasy of roaming around Waterstones ‘after-hours’, and it was a pleasure to share my poetry with them.
"Maybe they will be inspired to pick up a pen and write their own poems."
