AYRSHIRE commuters are being warned to expect major disruption to journeys by rail this morning– due to what’s being described as a “train fault”.

Widespread cancellations are being reported on the lines linking Ayrshire with Glasgow Central - just as services begin to return to normal after five days of strike action.

According to the ScotRail website and Journeycheck feed, dozens of trains between Ayr, Ardrossan, Largs and Glasgow Central will not run on Monday, December 19.

The disruption comes after five days of no trains at all anywhere in Ayrshire as a result of the latest strike action by members of the RMT union working for Network Rail in a long-running dispute over jobs, pay and conditions.

The strike meant there were no trains on any Ayrshire routes between Tuesday, December 13 and Saturday, December 17.

It’s also the second Monday in a row in which Ayrshire trains have suffered major disruption.

Dozens of services were cancelled on Monday, December 12 because of a fault with the fleet of trains that operates most services in Ayrshire, understood to be the result of below-freezing temperatures.

The full list of services which, according to ScotRail, will not run in Ayrshire on December 19 is as follows.
