An Ayrshire comedian is set to leave his West FM Breakfast show after six years at the station.
Bring It On Management have signed award-winning stand up Billy Kirkwood to their team after the Irvine comedian’s long stint hosting Ayrshire’s breakfast show.
The comedian and wrestling commentator will join Scott Booth and Jamie Haining, who've staged recent stand-up shows across Ayrshire, as he hosts his last programme at the end of the month.
Billy Kirkwood said: “It’s time for big change, I leave West FM with nothing but love, and I’m truly going to miss being a part of people’s mornings.
"Thinking about it breaks my heart how much ill miss it, the support and love we’ve had over the years has been overwhelming, you’ll never know how much its meant, it’s been a highlight of my life, an Ayrshire Boy, hosting Ayrshire show.
"Six years? They never expected it to last six weeks! And we got to make it unique, different and funny compared to other shows. During my time it was the most listened to show in the station’s history and I’ll always be so proud of that….man there’s going to be some tears but all good things come to an end. They’ll be a lot of tears before the last Billy Kirkwood at Breakfast on October 28.”
“But six years of 1am finishes and 4am starts it’s time for me to go.
"After chatting with Bring It On I knew this was a great fit mega excited to work for them and help them build on their plans”
Bring It On, the Ayrshire based events company has been running successful events in Ayrshire over the last five years and is looking to expand going into 2023, with development & talent management a big part of that.
Founders Scott Booth and Jamie Haining of Bring It On said: “We’ve been working with Billy on and off over the last few years, he’s born and bred in Ayrshire and so packed with energy, ideas, humour and an incredible creative mind and we’re so excited to welcome him to the Bring It On family working with him on new content, stand up tours, festivals, as well as including welcoming him back home as one of the showcase acts at our massive show at Troon Concert hall show on November 18."
Throughout his time on West FM he remained one of the busiest comedians and hosts across Scotland, with shows already planned for next year’s Glasgow and Edinburgh comedy festivals along with his regular on BBC radio Scotland, his hit Braw Beard Podcast, the host of ICW fight club on the WWE network every week .
