AYR-based charitable group Recovery Ayr held a flower walk yesterday (Wednesday) to raise awareness for Overdose Awareness Day as council bosses lit Wallace Tower purple in honour of the day.
The flower walk took place in three stages starting at the Citadel and ending at the Millenium Bridge where purple flowers were released into the River Doon to remember those that have been lost to an overdose.
More than 120 people joined Recovery Ayr in the flower walk, a fantastic turnout to remember those who have lost their lives as the result of an overdose.
Recovery Ayr is a grassroots recovery group for people in the early stages of recovery from alcohol or drug use in South Ayrshire, offering peer-led support and activities for individuals, families and the local community.
International Overdose Awareness Day is the world's annual campaign to end overdose. It also helps remember without stigma those who have died, and acknowledge the grief of the family and friends left behind.
