Barrhill Station is finally set to get a car park – after 60 years of waiting for one.
A car park at Barrhill Station has been discussed since the 1960s but over the years the idea was never progressed.
However, that’s all changed now following a successful funding application.
The South West Scotland Community Rail Partnership (SWSCRP) has secured funding from three sources – Barrhill CIC, Kilgallioch Community Fund and Carrick Futures.
With additional community benefit support from Ayrshire Roads Alliance, the project will now deliver the car park for users of the train station.
Construction began this week as ground was broken yesterday (Monday, February 28), and work on the car park is expected to take around three weeks to complete.
An SWSCRP spokesperson said: “We would like to acknowledge support from Network Rail and ScotRail in achieving this for the residents of Barrhill and the wider population.”
