Members of the Ayr Racecourse Grounds Team recently scaled the heights in the name of charity and raised a terrific £3,000 for Ayrshire Cancer Support.
An 11 strong contingent took a day off from looking after Scotland’s premier racecourse last month and headed to Arran to climb Goatfell.
And last week they were back on home soil to present Nicola George, Corporate & Trust Fundraiser for Ayrshire Cancer Support, the racecourse’s charity partner, with the cheque which resulted from their efforts.
A delighted Nicola said : “It is great to see the Grounds Team get behind our partnership and climb Goatfell to raise funds for our new cancer support centre for children, young people and adults affected by cancer.
“They enjoyed the challenge so much they are going to take part in our 40th anniversary Extreme Camp Out For Cancer Live Event at Ayr Racecourse on February 19th, 2022. Well done boys and see you in February.”
Graeme Anderson, Ayr ‘s Clerk of the Course and Head Groundsman, added : “We wanted to do something to raise funds for Ayrshire Cancer and we decided to climb Goatfell. Originally we were planning the climb for the summer but we were very busy with racing so it was put back until November. We were delighted to raise so much money.”
