Four South Ayrshire restaurants feature in the AA restaurant guide 2022, detailing some of the best food spots in the UK. 

The 2022 release marks the book's 28th edition, with each copy rounding up the best restaurants by county across Britain, alongside detailed descriptions of the location and often sample menus. 

Restaurants can be awarded 1-5 rosettes by inspectors, and while no Ayrshire venues received the prestigious five, one did win three.

Which South Ayrshire restaurants feature in AA restaurant guide 2022?

Fairfield House Hotel - Ayr

One rosette

On the seafront looking across to Arran, this restaurant focusses on local produce to make traditional dishes with a contemporary twist, such as like breast of duck, black cabbage, plum, potatoes and redcurrant jus.

MacCallums of Troon - Troon

One rosette

This oyster bar is all about seafood, with the AA guide highlighting the bass, the turbot and the sole specifically. 

Walkers Lounge - Troon

One rosette

A new addition to the AA guide, Walkers Lounge offers a traditional dining experience, with dishes such as vegetable broth, poached fillet of sole with a cheese and leek glaze and a white chocolate and raspberry tart. 

Glenapp Castle - Ballantrae

Three rosettes

As the only South Ayrshire restaurant to achieve three rosettes, Glenapp offers either three courses at lunch or six courses at dinner. 

Sample menus include Breaded John Dory with tartar sauce, then pea risotto with mint, feta and parmesan, followed by West Coast cod in parsley sauce. 

Guests can then choose between roast Goosnargh duck breast with butternut squash purée and a haggis bonbon, or fillet of salmon with Jersey Royals, asparagus and chive hollandaise.

Dessert brings buttermilk and rosewater pannacotta, with strawberries, raspberry coulis and pink peppercorn honeycomb, or a super cheese platter.
