A takeaway place that was devastated by the recent fire at Troon train station has plans to reopen from next week.
Scran at the Hanger, formerly Scran at the Station, reopened this week [Tuesday, August 3] from a new location at Bravo Freight Centre, Prestwick.
The eatery, run by Pamela Main and son, Kyle, had its challenges during lockdown.
But nothing compared to the devastating effects of the fire at Troon station earlier this month.
Now the takeaway will have a new home in Prestwick, where they will reopen for collections and deliveries, thanks to the team at Tastebudz who offered the team a second chance to continue the Scran dream.
When fire broke out at Troon train station last month, destroying the platform and everything in it, Kyle and his mum were both left wondering what would happen next and if their dream had been ruined.
After being given another chance to continue the dream, they are desperate to grab it with both hands.
Kyle told the Advertiser: “We are so thankful to have been given this opportunity again after what has been a terrible few weeks. We have lots of staff who haven’t been getting paid since the fire happened and the shop closed, so to get us all back working is absolutely brilliant.
“My mum had the shop for 14 years and I basically grew up in that shop, so to see 14 years worth of hard graft burnt to the ground in 10 minutes is something that’s pretty hard to deal with”.
After reinventing the takeaway at the station during lockdown and joining forces with him mum, Kyle says there was no way that they were going to give up on their aims.
He added: “So much hard work had gone into making Scran what it is, and there was absolutely no way I was willing to just give up on it.
“The support we got from the community has been amazing and it has really kept us going.
“After the fire, we didn’t even have a spoon between us so we literally had to start from scratch.
“The initial plan is to support Troon, so we will be offering a delivery service there.
“We have been given so much support from Troon so we had to do something to repay that”
