SUPERMARKET workers in Prestwick have tested positive for coronavirus just days after the busy Christmas period.
A small number of staff at Sainsbury's are self-isolating at home after contracting COVID-19.
The store say they have implemented additional cleaning to deal with the outbreak.
It comes as South Ayrshire is placed back into Level 4 lockdown restrictions with the rest of mainland Scotland to deal with a new variant of COVID-19 which has led to a rise in cases.
Over the Christmas week there were 114 positive cases identified across the local authority area between December 20 and 26.
A Sainsbury’s spokesperson said: “A small number of colleagues have tested positive at our Prestwick store and they are self-isolating at home.”
“Safety is our highest priority. We have introduced additional cleaning and have strict social distancing measures in all our stores, as well as hand sanitiser stations, Perspex screens and PPE for all our colleagues. We continue to support Test and Protect and remain in close contact with them.”
