Relatives of hospital patients are being urged to check which visiting restrictions apply to their wards this Christmas.

Rules have been in place with regards to visiting in all NHS Ayrshire & Arran hospital since November.

They have remained in place since, reflecting the region’s tier three status.

With Christmas approaching, the Scottish Government has provided guidance which allows some flexibility to allow patients to see their loved ones where possible.

Hazel Borland, nurse director, said: We appreciate how difficult it is to be separated from loved ones, particularly at this time of year.

“Our clinical teams will make decisions based on the individual patient and family circumstances and will discuss any decisions with the patient and their families.”

Those with family members in hospital over the festive period are encouraged to ask staff at the relevant wards if a visit will be possible on Christmas or Boxing Day.
