South Ayrshire Council has introduced free festive parking throughout December to boost retail in Ayr town centre.
For the whole of this month, parking is free in all on street pay and display bays, as well as inthe car parks at Barns Crescent, Charlotte Street and Kyle Street.
Limits to the length of stay in each car park will still apply.
With more businesses having reopened on Friday, December 12, the council hopes shoppers will take advantage of the free parking and spend their money on the high street.
Councillor Peter Henderson, Leader of South Ayrshire Council said last week: “Supporting local businesses is a priority for us.
“I’m sure that suspending parking charges in December will be a welcome boost for retailers.
“I hope that this will help to encourage more people to shop in stores in the town centre during the run up to Christmas, and for the subsequent sales.”
He added: “I would, however, like to remind everyone that it’s extremely important to continue to follow Scottish Government guidance on physical distancing, face masks and good hand
hygiene when you are out and about.”
