AN AYR carer was let off with a warning after laughing at one resident before another she was supposed to be supporting fell and injured themself.

Care assistant Josephine Monaghan, was given a warning on her registration for 12 months and ordered to undergo training after the incidents at Glenfairn House Nursing Home last year.

Monaghan engaged in a verbal altercation with a resident before laughing at them and causing undue distress on October 25, 2019

In the presence of another resident she shouted, “don’t f****** start” and kicked the latch on their bedroom door causing it to close on October 26, 2019.

The same day, Monaghan failed to use a zimmer frame when helping a third resident to the lounge, contrary to their mobility and safety plan.

Monaghan then left the resident standing in the lounge without her zimmer frame before she then fell and hit her face on a chair, sustaining injury.

The Scottish Social Services Council [SSSC] panel said: “In engaging in a verbal altercation with a vulnerable resident, then proceeding to laugh at them, your actions represented a breach of your position of trust, a loss of self-control and verbal abuse directed towards a resident.

“In failing to adhere to the information detailed within a resident’s mobility and safety plan, your actions represented a disregard for the resident’s support requirements and a breach of the trust placed in you.

“Your actions resulted in the resident concerned sustaining a fall resulting in physical injury, namely that the resident suffered soft tissue damage.”
