Tesco has installed Scottish Changing Places toilets in their Ayr superstore to further support those with disabilities visiting the premises.
The supermarket now features the specialist facilities, which help those with complex disabilities use toilets safely and comfortably.
They offer a larger area and specialist equipment such as hoists, a privacy screen and a height adjustable adult-sized changing bench.
Tony McElroy, Tesco’s head of communications in Scotland, said: “It’s clear how important Changing Places toilets are to our customers who need them so we’re pleased to have installed another one of these vital facilities at our Ayr store.
The new location is the sixth installation in Scotland and is among 99 Tesco stores to receive Changing Places facilities.
Jenny Miller CEO of PAMIS and the co-chair of the changing places consortium, said: “We are delighted that Tesco has committed to opening fully sized changing places toilets in another store in Scotland.
“For many years family carers and people who require this facility have told us how difficult it is to do their shopping when there is nowhere to access a facility that enables them to have their personal care needs met safely and with dignity and respect.
“Something we all take for granted is a life changing resource for those who need them.
“Having a changing places toilet in a store like Tesco opens up yet another part of life for this group who are excluded from so much because we just haven’t thought about inclusion from a wide enough angle.
“We are really delighted that Tesco have heard this message and are actively seeking to include everyone.”
