AN AYR cafe has asked customers to consider helping their Christmas campaign whilst they are locked down for three weeks.

Unity Grill on the Sandgate is closed as a result of Level 4 restrictions placed on South Ayrshire.

But they are urging customers unable to enjoy their trademark brunches to instead get behind their Christmas mission to bring joy to those less-fortunate over the festive period.

Ayr Advertiser:

Their campaign will see Christmas hampers delivered to families who are struggling and dinners to the homeless at Blue Triangle.

Owner Angela Iver told the Advertiser: “It’s a massive blow for us to close, especially at this time of year.

“It is our time to make sure we can get through a quiet January and February, it is devastating for everyone in hospitality, but there’s not an awful lot we can do about it.

“We actually got to a place where the staff got used to it. We lost almost half of our covers, but we were doing okay, we just had to keep adapting as best as we could, we have got a nice place, staff were all comfortable with procedures but now we are closed again for three weeks.”

Ayr Advertiser:

“We rely on passers by dropping in donations so we can provide an amazing Christmas for anyone who needs a bit of support. So we have asked that they donate to our Christmas campaign instead.”

“We are doing a Christmas day dinner in a hamper for families that are struggling, we are working with a few partner agencies.

“We’d normally have all the residents of Blue Triangle in – we will be providing a dinner to them and gifts.
