A COMMUNITY has come together to display festive spirit in the face of the coronavirus pandemic as they plan to bring Santa to their estate.
Kincaidston will welcome St Nick to their streets, with the whole place set to be buzzing as he arrives in style.
Children will line the streets keeping socially distanced as they can catch a glimpse of the man himself who might be cruising through the streets in a stylish sports car.
The restrictions in place to prevent the spread of COVID-19 had put a dampener on plans with the usual Christmas fun day and mini-market cancelled.
Fearing the children of the neighbourhood would miss out on some Christmas cheer, Scott Devin, 33, thought up a plan for Santa to visit the streets.
He told the Advertiser: “The community centre has been closed due to restrictions being put in place.
“It opened up for a wee bit in autumn, but the normal Christmas fun day wasn’t going to happen
“We wanted to bring some festive cheer to the estate, so we thought about setting up a Santa visit to Kindcaidston and it just snow balled from there. I’ve had donations coming in left right and centre. Raffle prizes, selection packs and toys, it is bringing the community together.”
Santa could be arriving in some style with a yellow Porsche on the cards.
Scott said: “I’ve got a friend who has a yellow Porsche, so I have asked if we could have the use of that
“It all depends on what the restrictions, a pickup truck might be more appropriate.”
Scott, who is a support manager for adults with learning disabilities, will be fully involved in the plans after helping Mr Claus make his way round Drongan over the past few years.
He said: “Santa goes round the streets in Drongan. The past three years, I’ve been really involved with that, so the inviting him down to Kincaidston won’t be an issue. My nephew stays here, I have lived here for three years, I thought it would be great to bring it to the area.”
Scott’s idea has been supported by the community with local businesses
donating prizes for a raffle on Friday, December 18 before Santa Claus hits the streets on Saturday, December 19.
The money raised will help to buy presents, but will also be donated to Kincaidston families who have been impacted by the coronavirus.
Scott added: “We are going to get selection boxes and teddies for younger kids or kids who can’t eat chocolate.
“Whatever is left, we will look to donate to other families to make Christmas magical.”
