CONCERNS have been raised over ‘disgusting’ sewage leaking from a drain near to an Ayr primary school.
It is feared the sewage water that is running onto the path could be putting the health of children at risk.
It has been spotted at Craigie Park near to St John’s Primary school and close to the main spot for children walking to the school or being dropped off near it.
One worried parent told the Advertiser: “I noticed it more in the summer with the smell and the pool of water.
“It was always this stream of water that was coming across the path. It is a funny colour and you can see a manhole where the water is pouring out of it.
“It goes right over to the other side of the park.
“Any kids walking up and down between the skate park and the tennis court will be walking right through it.
“It’s been leaking the whole time. I’ve noticed the smell before, it’s got a grey tinge to it as well. “
The parent, who wished to remain anonymous, sent in pictures to the Advertiser which reveal the filthy stream of water.
They added: “It looks and smells disgusting I’m surprised no one has got sick.
“It is right next to the school where parents park their car to pick up their kids.
“The worry is if one of them happened to trip they could up face first in sewage. It is a real risk.”
The Advertiser got in touch with Scottish Water who sent a team out on Friday to check the blocked drain.
They have urged residents to help prevent sewer blockages.
A Scottish Water spokesperson said: “Works are currently under way to clear a blocked drain at Craigie Park, Ayr.
“Scottish Water will also arrange for a clean-up of the area to be carried out as soon as the blockage has been cleared.
“We’d like to take this opportunity to remind customers that they can help prevent sewer blockages by only flushing the 3Ps – Pee, Poo and (toilet) Paper. Everything else should go in the bin.
