A NURSERY in Maybole was targeted by yobs last week in a ‘mindless’ act of vandalism.
Children and staff at Carin Early Years Centre were gutted after vandals left a
trail of destruction over the weekend of Friday, October
30 and Saturday, October
31.
The nursery took to social media after the incident to plead with youths who hang around the grounds to pick up after themselves.
The nursery sympathised with youths that who hang out at the school because they have nowhere to go, but they hit out at the group for
stealing toys and smashing things.
A post on Facebook urged: “Don’t trash the
nursery, steal their toys and smash things.
“You have little sisters, brothers, cousins, friends that come here. We are gutted to wake up to this. How sad.”
They added: “We will come together as a community, no one wants to see this.”
Police have vowed to continue patrols in the area to deter future vandals from wrecking the ground on Kirkland Street.
A Police Scotland spokesperson said: “We received a report of vandalism at a school premises in Kirkland Street, Maybole, that happened over the weekend.
“Enquiries are ongoing to find those responsible and officers will continue with patrols in the area to deter this kind of behaviour.”
The Ayr Advertiser contacted South Ayrshire Council about the anti-social behaviour.
A council spokesperson said: “This is mindless vandalism carried out by a minority group within a very supportive community.
“It’s extremely upsetting for the children and staff.”
