A PRESTWICK Academy pupil showed her kindness recently as she volunteered her time and skills to bake cupcakes for the elderly in the community.
Libby Clime, aged 12 has been supporting the Dementia Friendly Prestwick Group with her mum Rowan since it began four years ago.
The group are a local charity who go out their way to support the older people in their community with activity and lunch packs as well as hosting weekly walks.
During the recent school holiday, Libby volunteered her time and fantastic baking skills to make cupcakes, which went down a treat.
Libby said: “I have enjoyed going on the weekly walks, and because I can’t go along when I’m at school, I thought it would be good to do some baking instead.
“It is hard for people to be in lockdown and it must be really hard for people who are by themselves or have to look after other people. I thought that cupcakes might cheer some people up.”
Libby’s mum, Rowan added: “It’s great when young people become involved in projects like this. “Libby did a great job of baking and decorating all of the cupcakes, and even cleared up the kitchen afterwards.”
One woman who received a lovely treat from Libby said the cakes were so good they brought back memories of her mother’s baking. Director of Dementia Friendly Prestwick, Julie Twaddell, added how proud she was of Libby: “Our charity is about inclusion and awareness, and it is a joy to bring people together in this simple way.”
