AYR Rotary Club have stayed connected during the coronavirus lockdown by holding their first ever e-meeting.
The meeting broke the traditions of nearly 90 years of the club as the Rotarians utilised technology to keep in touch, as an alternative way of communicating.
Some members exhibited technical skills some never new they possessed by joining the meeting using Zoom video conference-meeting software
The meeting on April 14 was attended by 28 Rotarians.
The e-meeting followed their traditional pattern of past club gatherings, without the usual dinner.
President Ieuan Isaac sat as the “virtual” chair.
After the usual welcome and club business announcements, members heard an outline of plans for a charity event proposed for spring 2021.
The main beneficiaries of the event will be two important charities, namely Aquabox and WE, who deliver essential clear drinking water in developing countries and disaster zones throughout the world.
Alex Thomson gave the vote of thanks and congratulated John Dunlop on all his excellent work in arranging the club’s first e-meeting.
In view of its success, it is intended to continue these meetings on a fortnightly basis.
Ayr Rotary Club has invited anyone wishing to attend any future online meetings to contact them via their webpage https://rotaryclubofayr.org/.
Anyone who wishes to be considered for an online presentation to the club in this novel manner should make contact the same way.
Ayr Rotary Club’s ambition is to continue to offer Fun and Friendship by Helping Others.
