A CRISIS service that has taken more than 2,000 calls from vulnerable residents has received a massive funding boost.

South Ayrshire Lifeline has been given grants to keep their vital support network in operation.

The emergency project helping the elderly and vulnerable to stay safe throughout the lockdown have been provided a cash injection by three charity funders.

A total of £24,112 has been netted in grants to the dedicated service, set up by Ayr-based charity Voluntary Action South Ayrshire (VASA).

The funding has come from The National Lottery Community Fund, Foundation Scotland and the William Grant Foundation after they were impressed by the Lifeline’s fast and practical response to the lockdown, which has left thousands isolated.

The funds will go towards delivering food and prescription deliveries and telephone befriending.

The National Lottery have provided an award of £9,528.

The Lifeline has also been awarded a grant of £4,584 by Foundation Scotland from their Response, Recovery and Resilience fund for “the important work the team are delivering”.

Another £10,000 has come from the William Grant Foundation, a non-profit association established to support charitable causes funded by Girvan distillers William Grant and Sons Ltd.

A sum of £7,000 is to support the work of the Lifeline with the remaining £3,000 to be given to small groups who are helping their communities through the crisis.

The dedicated team of staff and volunteers who work seven days a week were delighted with the triple funding boost.
