PRESTWICK tennis coaches have been recognised after they were named as finalists in a prestigious national award.

The work of the team from Prestwick Tennis and Fitness Club has been acknowledged in two of the most sought-after awards categories, in The Tennis Scotland Awards 2019.

The shortlist was unveiled last week, recognising the achievements, work and dedication of individuals, clubs, teams, tournaments and programmes throughout the country during the course of last year.

Prestwick Tennis and Fitness Club has been shortlisted for the Disability Award and Club of the Year Award.

The club consists of eight coaches who strive to keep players engaged in the sport whilst pushing them to reach their goals.

Another South Ayrshire club has also been recognised.

Coylton Tennis Club has been shortlisted for the Volunteer of the Year Award. The Volunteer of the Year is given to individuals who have made a significant impact to tennis within a voluntary capacity over the past year.

The nominees have all been credited by Tennis Scotland for displaying excellent teamwork skills, and engaged well with people from different backgrounds, increasing the opportunity for participation in the sport.

Blane Dodds, Tennis Scotland chief executive, said: “The Tennis Scotland Awards give us the chance to recognise the incredible achievements of individuals, clubs, teams, tournaments and programmes across the country.

“They are the driving force behind our sport and it’s important that we take the time to acknowledge their contributions to tennis in Scotland.

“All should be very proud of their achievement in being shortlisted for an award and we look forward to announcing the winners in the next few weeks.”
