WHITELEYS Retreat will re-open its doors to take the burden off NHS heroes on the frontline of coronavirus.
The facility which provides respite for children with life altering illnesses and their families, had to ‘pause’ its services amid the outbreak of Covid-19.
Now they are set to welcome to provide free accommodation to doctors looking after Ayrshire children over the coming weeks and months until the pandemic is over.
Maxine Allan, CEO of Whiteleys made the call to bring a halt to the Retreats normal operation on Monday, March 15.
But as the crisis developed across Ayrshire, Maxine took the decision to put empty cottages to use.
It means that paediatric consultants from NHS Ayrshire & Arran Units, will be able to make themselves at home at the tranquil countryside facility.
Maxine said: “We are highly conscious of the extremely heavy burden on our NHS staff and services at this time, and we needed to help.
“Whiteleys was created through community spirit - we must continue to work together, as a community to get through this crisis and do what we can to help one another and our NHS.
“I am confident that our supporters and donors over the past years will be behind us in this decision.”
“Our volunteers will not be in contact with NHS staff at any time whilst on the retreat. Should you have any queries or concerns please get in touch through our website www.whiteleysretreat.com or email maxine@whiteleysretreat.com 🙏🏼 #weloveournhs #NHS #COVID19”
