A BOMB disposal unit have carried out a "controlled explosion" after a device was found on Troon beach.
An area of the beach near the Marine Hotel was closed off, and witnesses described hearing a loud bang as a specialist Royal Navy team assisted police.
A police spokesperson told the Advertiser: "We received a report of ordnance at Troon beach around 10.30am on Friday 18 October 2019.
“The Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) team carried out a controlled explosion on the beach. The beach was re-opened at 2.50pm.”
