OLYPMIC boxing champion Dick McTaggart and his wife Doreen celebrated their Golden Wedding at the weekend.
Friends and family helped the couple celebrate the milestone on Saturday, March 26 at the South Beach Hotel in Troon.
Earlier that afternoon, Dick and Doreen renewed their vows at Troon Church of the Nazarene, to mark the special occasion and because they got married in a registry office in 1966 on Glasgow's Martha Street.
Dick who is 80 met Doreen Cochrane, now 79 at a cafe in Union Street in Glasgow in 1962 where she was working at the time.
But because she is from Kent, Doreen didn't realise who he was. Dick gave her tickets to watch him in a boxing match. Doreen went to the match with her friend but supported Dick's opponent.
A week later Dick, who was 25 at the time, plucked up the courage to ask out 23-year-old Doreen and took her to a cafe where they ate egg and chips.
Speaking about their anniversary, Tracy O'Neil, their daughter said: "It was a wonderful night, we hired an Elvis Presley tribute act in the first hour for mum because she just loved him.
"There were more people than we were expecting, at least 90 people if not 100 came. Friends and family came from all over the country.
"My mum got her hair done specially. They renewed their vows in the church because they got married in a registry office. When the doors opened and my mum saw all those people there for her she cried.
"I think she was just overwhelmed. But it was a great day and a good night for everyone."
Congratulations to Dick and Doreen.
